INTRODUCTION
It was not a choice but a requirement that I became a Catholic. I live in a country, wherein more than eighty percent are Christians (mostly Catholic). Born to a family that was deeply rooted to Catholic Dogmas, I was immediately baptized to embrace our Church Doctrines.
It was not my picking. My parents wanted me to be. The society dictates that I be one. Nevertheless, I am still thankful that I was introduced to the most prevalent religion in the world, Christianity.
If you ask me, I did not shift to any other religion. I am still a Catholic and will just remain one.
You might be wondering for yourself what this book is all about. Let me just note that I am neither a Catholic defender, Christian apologetic (a reasoned advocate for Christianity) nor a self-confessed atheist. From the time we are introduced to our own religion, be it Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, or what have you, we have been presented with questions about God, our existence, and our purpose. However, every time we ask these questions to our Priests, Pastors, Imam or to any church leader, we receive the same vague answers like,
“That is the beauty about God, He remains a mystery.”
“God is beyond human comprehension.”
“We can’t translate God in the context of human understanding.”
These answers do not satisfy the human mind. They only lead to debates, confusion, and worst of all, lost of faith. You wouldn’t be reading this book if you are already convinced with the answers, right?
I have known a lot of people, friends, relatives, and even families that are on the verge of losing their faith and even to the point of not believing in a God anymore. Fortunately, I was able to talk to some of them and brought them back to their faith.
This little book is just a compilation my answers to life’s most intriguing questions about God and who we are. Answers that will hopefully translate God in the context of our understanding. Answers that are not beyond our comprehension.
This book is divided into several sections:
Who is God?
Answers to questions about God and presents a concept of Him that will hopefully resolve countless issues on faith. This also discusses the existence of “Satan” [if he does exist] and God’s ‘inaction’ during calamities. It will also try to tackle God’s characteristics.
Who are We?
Discusses questions of our very own existence and our purpose. It also looks into the idea of faith, free will versus destiny, and the existence of our ‘souls’.
Is there really heaven and hell?
Talks about the issues surrounding “heaven” and “hell”, what is “right” and “wrong”, the law of karma, and theories on sins.
And as a final note, it offers an opinion as to which one is the truest of all religions.
A lot of people might not readily accept the views presented in this book since it will offer a rare concept about God which is contrary to our traditional beliefs. In fact, if this book has been published hundred years ago, I probably end up already hanged or burned to the stake.
I am not asking you to share the same ideas with me. Just open your mind and read through the whole book and see if the insights presented will provide answers to your life’s most intriguing questions.
It is my hope that this theology of a modern heretic will provide a broader and greater understanding about God, our existence, and our purpose.
