If God does feel emotions, is He an active force/mind that makes decisions as He goes?
God may feel emotions but He does not act on it unless otherwise conjured. In a sense, God is neutral unless you ask His guidance. Hence, He would not interfere with our free will except if we allow Him or solicit it.
No movie has greatly illustrated the neutrality of God except for George Lucas’ Star Wars. It may be a science fiction to you but the theology behind the FORCE is immensely expressed. For those people who don’t have the slightest idea of what the movie Star Wars is, let me just give you a brief overview on the importance of the Force in the movie.
The Force is being harnessed by two different opposing sides, the Jedis, who utilize the Force to defend the Republic, protect the innocent and the righteous, and uphold the truth. The opposing group is headed by the Sith Lord, Darth Vader and his minions who harness the dark side of the Force to destroy the Jedis and overthrow the Republic so that they can rule the universe.
Good and Evil are parts of a greater whole, which is the Universe or God. And in the movie it is described as the Force. It is up to you if you conjure the Dark Side or you walk the Path of Light. However, always remember that there is a corresponding consequence of each of your action. A rotten tree shall bear no fine fruit, therefore, what you sow, so shall you reap. If you plant good seeds, then you reap good fruits, otherwise, the opposite will also take place.
God will never force you to choose which side you should be in because you are given the complete freedom and you have the free will to decide. However, every time you walk the path of evil, it ‘injures’ Him. When you murder somebody, you have destroyed a part of God. But if you heal the sick, you heal the wounds of God. Hence, it is really up to you.
To answer the question, Yes. God makes decisions. When the Universe started, the Laws of Nature, including the Law of Cause and Effect, were put into place. From that point, God decided to give us freedom of choice. And until now, He decides to uphold that freedom without interfering in our decisions. This makes our lives as exciting and wonderful as it is now.
