Theology of a Modern Heretic

An ordinary man's unconventional belief about God and his existence.

How come He doesn’t answer my prayers?

Every time we are facing challenging predicaments, we always to tend to lean on somebody whom we can trust. Someone whom we think can aid us in resolving the crisis that we are experiencing. Most of the people would consult their friends, families, counselors, lawyers, doctors, and the like. And most of us would always requests for His Divine guidance and assistance. However, there are still a lot of people who are usually disappointed because their prayers are not answered. In order for us to understand why our prayers are not answered, we have to look deeper into how we pray and ask for aid.

Prayer is a form of request or thanksgiving to God or to an object of worship. It may be in a traditional format (e.g. the Christian’s Lord’s Prayer) or free style. Most of the prayers are supplications. There are also a lot of people though who pray in gratitude.

There are factors that I think need to be considered in order for our prayers to be effective. These are:

a. It should not interfere with other person’s free will.
You can not force people to fall in love with you or give you a thousand dollars because doing so would violate other people’s freedom of choice.

b. The effect of the prayer should not cause harm to any individual including you.
Causing pain to others and yourself would consequently hurt God.

c. You should always believe that your prayers will be answered.
The tiniest speck of doubt will ruin the efficiency of each prayer. Even by just asking yourself “Will God answer my prayers?” will surely decrease the probability of it being realized.

d. Praying in groups with a single goal.
It doesn’t mean that every time you implore His help you should bring along somebody with you. There are times that you need to pray privately which is also effective. However, it will really boost the efficiency of the prayer if you pray in groups. Let us just say that this is optional but highly effective. As what the Christian’s Jesus said, “For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.” [Matthew 18:20].

In addition, you will also notice that petitions prayed by monks and nuns are quite effective. The main ingredient here is that the praying group should have one single goal and purpose.

Try to apply the above mentioned criteria and you will be astonished with the results. Moreover, recall any instance wherein your prayer has been answered and go over the factors to see if these things hold true.
