Do we have souls?
It is generally believed that each one of us has a soul, the immaterial part of a person that which is the actuating cause of an individual life. It is thought that once a person dies, the soul transcends to another plane. Some believe that the soul will either go to heaven or hell, depending on how the person lived his life on earth. Others believe that the soul will be reborn/ reincarnated. And some don’t even believe that it exists at all. Or do they?
Each individual has his own unique ‘consciousness’. This state of awareness or knowledge can also be understood as the ‘life force’ or the ‘mind’. Though every person has a distinctive consciousness, we are always connected or linked to each other. Haven’t you experienced this, when out of the blue you were thinking of a specific person, perhaps a long time friend, then after a few minutes, amazingly your friend calls you on your phone? Or have this happened to you, you were about to say exactly the same words / statements that your colleague was saying? Or maybe you have a bad feeling about your mother way back home and when you tried call her, she was actually admitted in the hospital? Perhaps, you had a dream of a certain person and the next day, you heard a bad news about him? There are a lot of events which we can attribute to our ‘consciousness’ being linked together. I am pretty sure you have experienced some of these.
This individual consciousness that we have, the active and the subconscious, constitutes to our ‘soul’ itself. And this consciousness enables the individual to make its own decision, to act, and to move. The human body itself is driven by this consciousness. That is why it is also considered as a life force. And the collective consciousness of everything and everyone is called the Universal Consciousness, which becomes the Consciousness of God. Remember, that God is everything which includes you, me, and everything in between. This Universal Consciousness is what drives the world and the universe.
This consciousness, soul, mind, life force, energy, or whatever you want to call it, is the basic component of everything. When you break up an object, you have pieces or parts of it. And when you look closely into its parts, you see molecules, then atoms, then protons/electrons/neutrons, then quarks and then you will find the final and most basic building block of all things – energy. That energy is your soul.
